I want, in fact, to delete them permanently from the disk. I intentionally use "Delete From Disk" when I'm purging my files and eliminating images I no longer want or need.

Since I'm running on an older Mac plus shooting with extremely high resolution cameras that generate huge files, I've decided on multiple catalogs in the interest of keeping my workflow fluid and at a decent speed. The other catalogs are spread across 7 external hard drives. The Master Catalog is on my main drive as well as a backup drive. Not only do I "fully understand" how LR works, I do in fact have a master catalog that references all of my images, which total roughly nearly 10TB worth of content. I've been working with Adobe products since Photoshop V1.0, 1990. You're making incorrect assumptions about me. I'm sure there's a simple solution that I'm overlooking! Thanks for any help you can provide. I've tried all of the "View" settings in an effort the isolate the grayed-out previews, but nothing I select works.
But that's not as common as finding the grayed-out previews intermixed with the normal previews. When that's the case, I can select the whole group and delete them all at the same time. there's a group of the grayed-out previews in a row. Right now I find myself deleting the grayed-out previews one-by-one or.
Which is fine. But often enough, the grayed-out previews are all over the place, ie mixed in with the usable and visible previews. How do I select/isolate the grayed-out images so that I can delete them all at the same time? the images I've deleted in the other catalog show up as grayed-out, no link to the original image. a different catalog from the one where I deleted images. When I select "Delete From Disk" when working with one particular catalog, my work, of course, affects any other catalog that might hold the same image, ie a duplicate.
